Litter

I walked in the parking lot on my way back to my library branch after a meeting. I noticed a young man, probably in his mid-twenties, opening a pack of cigarettes in his car. I didn't really care about the smoking so much until the man took the top part of the cigarette case and promptly tossed the plastic covering (trash) outside the open window onto the pavement. Hmmn. I calmly walked up beside the vehicle and picked up the litter he just tossed into the parking lot that my custodian has to clean every morning because of slobs like him. He was obnoxiously puffing away on his cigarette when I said sweetly, "This must be yours, sir." I handed/put the litter back onto the driver's side of his car. The look on his face was priceless. It was not the most street-wise thing to do, but I tire of people throwing debris on the ground, especially in a place that that we all work so hard trying to beautify. Anyway, I'm off my anti-litter soapbox. Going to rest so I can be healthy and strong for the weekend. Big day Saturday.

My husband did something similar at a gas station. I got to see the whole thing because it happened just next to our parked car. He was coming out of the store when the girl in the passengers side of an SUV opened the window and dropped a half-full soda can out on the ground. He calmly picked it up and handed it back to her through her open window saying "You just dropped this." She took it from him, said "Oh, thanks," and then promptly dropped it back on the ground as soon as he'd turned his back on her. There was a trash can literally 5 feet from the front bumper of the SUV, but she was too lazy to get out of the vehicle and put the trash where it belonged! It made me so mad, but what can you really do? Ugh.
