May the 4th Be with You and Poems Presented by the Acting Ensemble
Happy Star Wars Day! It's a little after midnight on May 4, and it's Sunday morning. I couldn't sleep, so I'm blogging. My mind won't shut off for some reason.
The semester will be officially over when I submit grades during finals this week. (Our class doesn't have a final, so I will be grading this week.) Although I'm grateful that the work portion of the course is over, I'm going to really miss the students in all of my classes (I had three this semester). I met some truly wonderful people that I am grateful for the opportunity to teach and help them on their academic journey.
I'm still teaching kids and teens at the Kroc Center. It's been over two years, and I'm having fun teaching creative writing and public speaking. Class meets once a week on Wednesdays, and at the end of this month there will be a spring showcase. It's rewarding to watch our students show their families what they have learned over the spring.
This spring has been literally poetic. I submitted a poem for Pan-O-Ply, which is a local literary magazine that features stories, poetry, and art, and submitted another poem for Sharing the Muse at the South Bend Museum of Art. I was also invited to read poetry along with the Acting Ensemble at the River Park Branch Library.
The most exciting news is that excerpts from Home, my poetry book, will be presented (a poetry play, if you will) by actors at The Acting Ensemble on Friday, May 16, and Saturday May 17 at 7:30 p.m. There are 40 seats per night @ $2.00 a person for reservations (donations are at the door). In addition, there will be slides, photography, and an art installation. To make reservations, please call 574-217-8873 or visit www.actingensemble.com.
I'm so grateful for this opportunity.
