A Quiet Monday

As of 8:02 p.m. tonight, I will officially turn 55. This number can be seen on a speed limit sign. I will be eligible for senior housing and will be closer to 60 than 50.

This crazy, beautiful rock keeps spinning at a seemingly increasingly rapid rate, although I have slowed somewhat physically. My mind is clear. I am working on rebuilding both strength and resilience. I am proud of this age and will take every geriatric benefit available, for every silver strand on my head and every aching joint are badges of honor. Although challenging and painful at times, aging is a privilege, and I have to keep telling myself that. Not everyone experiences becoming an adult, middle-age, or the beginning of the senior years.

This weekend was lovely. Steve and my in-laws have been generous with their time, experiences, and gifts. It helps cope with the losses experienced in life through death, life circumstances, or low efforts.

I am appreciative of all the well-wishes online through cards, phones, and online. Today I am spending the day with a wonderful pup named Archer. I love him very much. He's the sweetest dog, and like me, he is also in his middle years. I laugh because at times we both have a creaky gait when standing and trudging across the living room. There's still a slight remnant of the skunk he encountered about a week ago. I hope he's forgotten about the unfortunate event.

This evening, Steve and I will enjoy a quiet dinner, and then watch one of my favorite movies "Pretty in Pink." In fact, he gifted this movie tonight and will add this to a movie-themed podcast that we are planning on launching this year.
